THE 12TH ANNUAL MALTA 5&10K
ROUNDABOUT RUNNERS CLUB/MALTA 5K/10K TEAM IS COMMITTED TO PRODUCING SAFE LIVE RACING. This is made possible through considerable modifications and meticulous planning in redesigning the event experience to be compliant with all CDC and NYS Guidelines and Requirements.
This handbook provides a complete overview of how the event will be deployed. Please read it fully and remind friends and family participating with you to do the same. We look forward to enjoying a safe and inspiring day with you!
The Malta 5 & 10k starts and finishes at HVCC Tec-Smart 345 Hermes Road in Malta. The 10k loops around all the roads in the Luther Forest Technology Campus. The 5k is relatively flat and a USATF certified course. The 1st mile will take participants out and back on rocket drive then up to our Title sponsor Global Foundries campus for about 1 mile. The course then winds downhill back on Hermes road toward TEC smart. The 10k begins at 8:15AM and the 5k at 8:30AM

PACKET PICK-UP (PPU)

While we are offering a race day pick-up option, we are only doing so as a last resort for anyone with absolutely no other viable option to get their packet. Yes, you can send someone else.
At PPU, you will receive a State Farm bag with shirt (if chose to receive), running cap, & Hannaford water bottle. Your bib & safety pins will be handed to you separately. If picking up on race day, be prepared to leave extra time to pick up your packet and return to your car. If you want to exchange your shirt for a different size, you can check back on race day after the event. The shirts run true to size, but we will accommodate the best we can for those who want to change. For those that selected that you did not want a race shirt, your bib will reflect that as well. You will not be given a shirt. If you would like one, you can buy one for $10 cash or Venmo on site.
RECEIVING YOUR ITEMS
In an effort to limit gathering of participants in an indoor space, when you arrive at Fleet Feet, we are encouraging you to wear a mask, regardless of your vaccination status. We will have a volunteer at Fleet Feet’s entrance to provide you with a mask if you do not have one. We hope to have PPU outside depending on the weather to limit indoor gathering. Please watch for signage.
If you do need to pick up your packet on race day, it is HVCC Tec Smart policy that you must have a mask on, covering your nose and mouth when inside HVCC Tec Smart. We hope to have PPU outside depending on the weather to limit indoor gathering. Please watch for signage.

ABOUT YOUR BIB
This bib must be worn on your front, outermost layer, and be visible throughout the event.
The back has a thin sticker on it. This is your timing strip. Please do not bend nor modify it.
The orange bib indicates the 10k race and the blue is the 5k. This helps with our on-course volunteers
There is a lower section of the bib with pull tags for your $3 off beer at Unified Beerworks (21+) .
You are the only person allowed to wear your bib. If you are unable to participate, it is impermissible to give it to someone else. Doing so will result in permanent future disqualification from this event.
ARRIVING AT THE EVENT
Arrive between 30 minutes prior to your race start time, with the following conditions:
1.Do not arrive after 8AM for the 10k and 8:15 for the 5k.
2.If you need to get your packet on race morning (respectfully discouraged) - give yourself an extra 15 minutes.
4.Round Lake Fire Department will be directing all vehicles to enter the parking lot via Hermes Road, Follow the directions. There are 500 parking spots available and other parking available at 10 Hermes Road, a short walk to the start line. As with a huge event like this, parking will be tight. THERE IS NO GEAR (BAG) CHECK
If you have additional layers of clothes or other items that you don’t want to participate with, either plan to leave them in your car at least 5 minutes in advance of when you need to enter the start area or have someone with you that you can hand them to before you enter the start area.
NEED WATER OR A BATHROOM?
In an effort to limit gathering, we are limiting the traditional water stops on the course. Water will not be available on the 5k course. You must have a water bottle with you and bring your own water. A refill station will be available on the 10k course at mile 3 ½ & 5. Hannaford has provided the post-race water along with grab & go food. There are six (6) portable toilets available and bathrooms available inside TEC Smart, which is the building which is the race day packet pick-up.
The entire route is marked by cones. Blue cones will be used for the 10k & orange for the 5k.
Volunteers will be at all intersections, with state police also present at key locations.
Both courses will be closed to traffic at 8AM
You must maintain a pace of 15:00 minutes per mile and finish by 9:30AM. If you fall behind pace based upon your location when approached by either event staff or police, you may be asked to move to the bike path and off the road.
It is strongly recommended that you do not run with headphones nor any type of sound listening device. If you must, only utilize a headphone in a single ear, and keep the volume low so that you can remain fully alert to the sound/instruction of other runners, event staff, and vehicles.
ON-COURSE WATER & TOILETS
There are no water stops on the 5k course and 1 at mile 3 ½ & 5 on the 10k course. There are no toilets provided on the course. If you desire to have water or other supplements during the race, you must carry it with you. There are toilets available before and after the race near and in Tec Smart.
What a rush! Congratulations! You ran a live road race!
As you finish the 10k, please stay to the LEFT for the last 1/4 mile as you make your way back up Stonebreak. For those running the 5k, please stay to the RIGHT after coming down the median from GlobalFoundries campus. The finish line banner will be a good visual to help you know which lane to be in. We will have cones, signs, and volunteers to help you along your way to help you finish strong. Please smile at the finish line, so our finish line photographer, can get you at your best.
Catch your breath in the finish chute, but then please keep moving through it to exit the chute & take a right back into Tec Smart parking lot from Hermes. Head to the Hannaford truck to check your results.
TIMING AND RESULTS

The results will be posted on our Facebook page @malta5k/10k and on ARE website.
All placings and data are based on clock start & finish time. There is no net time.
(There will be no in person awards ceremony this year. Awards can be picked up at Fleet Feet Malta Starting on Monday September 13th)
All 10k finishers receive a Death Wish Coffee cold brew and finisher medal. All 5k finishers 12 & under will receive a 5k medal. The results, posted on the Hannaford truck, will still allow for you to see your placing within customary 10-year age groups. The top 3 male and female finishers, in both races will be granted complimentary entry for the 2022 event. The 5k overall winners will receive cash prizes from Fleet Feet. 10k overall winners will receive gift cards from our prize sponsor.
The event is being conducted in compliance with all CDC and NYS Guidelines and Recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. If you are feeling ill or have been exposed to someone in the past 14 days who has tested positive, do not attend the event. Our medical director, Dr. James Kelley from Saratoga Hospital’s sport medicine group, has been monitoring the latest Covid-19 findings. We do require at registration that you have had your 2nd shot (or 1 shot J&J) prior to our event)
If you need medical assistance after your run/jog or walk our medical director, Dr. Kelley, will be there at the finish line as well. Do not be afraid to stop be for any reason. He is an expert in sports medicine and has worked many big events. We are lucky to have him on our team.
We will also have our friends from Suarez Sports & Orthopedic will be at the finish line for any post-race stretches.
EVENT CANCELLATION POLICY
We promise to continue to make every effort to offer you a safe and exciting event. It will be held rain, snow, or shine. It is possible that the event may need to be further modified or canceled due to the impact of COVID-19 or significantly inclement weather and/or temperature, or some other unforeseen reason. In the event of a modification while the race is in progress, we will alert our course marshals who will inform you as you reach them. We will also update our social Media channels and website. Ultimately any decision to modify the event will be made in concert with police, fire & rescue, and medical personnel as appropriate.
POST RACE PARTY
Please join us at Unified Beerworks (7 Old Stonebreak Rd #4, Malta) on race day for $3 off your 1st drink with you tear off bib tab. UBW will open at 10AM and have Old Tyme BBQ serving up some delicious breakfast sandwiches.
Help the Miss Scotties Fierce 8U and get rid of old sneakers! The Fierce are doing a sneaker drive fundraiser with GotSneakers.Com, collecting old sneakers and cleats to be recycled. With back to school and a new Fall season starting, it is a great time to clean out those closets! Feel free to drop off sneakers in bins at Fleet Feet Sports in Malta, the Malta YMCA, at the Malta 5k/10K on 9/11, or at the Luther Forest Fields.
